Canadian Goose Nest

Skip The Story ↓↓↓

The first week of April, a Canadian Goose made a nest next to the loading dock at my office and laid 4 eggs. They usually have a mate to help watch over the nest, she didn’t. He would show up every few days and honk at her to go eat, she’d go for a little while and come back alone.

She sat on that nest day and night by herself. Through the rain, cold and 90 degree heat, she sat there. I put water out for her and she eventually got comfortable with me being nearby.

About 2 weeks in, something got one of the eggs while she was away. On the 5th of May, her first egg hatched, then later that day the 2nd egg, but the 2nd one had some issues, it’s called Stargazer Syndrome.

The next day the Stargazer kept falling over and couldn’t walk with the mom to go eat. The last egg didn’t hatch and eventually the mom and mate left the nest with the one gosling and at the instruction of a bird rehab center, I was able to get the Stargazer before some other predator got to him. I took him to a bird rehab center and they said that he does have a chance and quite a few outgrow it.
